Township of King
Responsible AI Roadmap
About the Art
Blending op-art, tessellation, and sacred geometry, this piece nests two Platonic solids to explore how ancient mathematical symbolism speaks to modern computational philosophy. At its centre, the dodecahedron (Plato’s symbol for aether, the underlying order of the cosmos) represents rationalism. Its twelve golden-ratio pentagons recall the optimised, balanced architecture of a neural network, each interconnected vertex a decentralised processing node. Around it, the icosahedron (traditionally the element of water) represents empiricism: fluid, adaptive, and built from twenty densely interlinked triangular faces that model a high-density neural lattice, where information spreads across weighted connections rather than moving through a single fixed path. The two solids are geometric duals, so each shape’s vertices align with the other’s faces, forming a closed, mirrored relationship between rigid structure and distributed, adaptive processing. This nesting proposes an answer to the Symbol Grounding Problem (the question of how abstract digital symbols acquire meaning) suggesting that meaning arises only where fixed computational architecture is fully enveloped by fluid, real-world experience. This speaks to the goals of the Township of King’s AI Roadmap project that is creating a blueprint of responsible and possible AI usage with tangible real-world implementations that balance this duality.

A publicly shared roadmap that explains King Township’s AI principles, maturity assessment results, gaps, future plans and responsible AI governance path
King Township publicly shares its AI principles, maturity gaps and implementation roadmap, giving residents a clear basis to understand, question and monitor how municipal AI will be introduced.
King Township published its Responsible Artificial Intelligence Roadmap before wider AI use, giving the public a view of the rules, gaps and next steps shaping its approach.
The roadmap is a strategic document that outlines the Township’s AI principles, strategy alignment, maturity assessment results, opportunity prioritization, responsible generative AI guidelines and tactical next steps. King Township has established a governance framework for AI and made its approach visible to staff, Council, residents and peers.
The roadmap also makes the Township’s current AI maturity visible by identifying strengths, gaps and areas still under development. This lets the public see where the organization stands today, where it intends to go, and what controls will guide future AI use.

The roadmap’s guiding principles include human-centred design, responsible and safe deployment, transparency, understandability, value-driven innovation and fairness. It also highlights responsible generative AI guidelines, including review by an internal Leveraging Technology Steering Committee, risk assessment for issues such as misinformation, privacy, malicious code, biased content and loss of intellectual property, and staff training before approved AI tools are used.
Sharing the assessment results brings AI out of the technical back office and into the public conversation. Residents can see how AI may affect municipal services, what safeguards are being considered and where governance is still developing. That gives them something concrete against which to understand and, over time, assess the Township’s approach as municipal AI use grows.
