Northumberland County
Northumberland County Performance Dashboard
About the Art
This geometric abstraction takes its structure from Cubo-Futurism, breaking the shape of Northumberland County into overlapping planes of colour, one for each of the five pillars in the County’s 2023–2027 Community Strategic Plan drawn from the County’s own palette. Where the shapes intersect, the piece speaks to how the County’s Performance Dashboard works, not as five disconnected reports, but interlocking data points brought together into one shared, legible view. A dark diagonal cuts through the geometric planes, marking Highway 28 and grounding the abstraction in the county’s actual geography. Where earlier public reporting was static, this piece treats transparency as something dynamic and layered, echoing a dashboard that pairs raw indicators with plain-language context so residents can see not just what is measured, but why it matters.

A public digital dashboard that tracks 45 indicators tied to Northumberland County’s 2023–2027 Community Strategic Plan and explains performance in plain language
Northumberland County’s Performance Dashboard lets residents track 45 strategic indicators, see which results are on or off track and understand what action the County plans when performance falls short.
Northumberland County’s Performance Dashboard lets residents see how the County is doing against the commitments in its 2023–2027 Community Strategic Plan.
Launched in February 2024, the dashboard gives residents, Council, staff and community partners access to the current status of 45 indicators organized under the Plan’s five strategic pillars. Built using the ESRI ArcGIS Online Hub Application, it combines dashboards, feature layers, tables and interactive maps with plain-language explanations, trend information and narrative context.
The dashboard does more than publish numbers. It explains what results mean, why they matter and how they connect to County priorities. Indicators are updated quarterly. When performance is off track, the dashboard identifies next steps, helping the public see how the County is responding.
The platform also distinguishes between Key Performance Indicators and Community Health Indicators. Key Performance Indicators show whether the County is on track against defined targets. Community Health Indicators monitor broader local conditions the County does not fully control. This distinction supports accurate, responsible reporting and helps users understand where the County has direct influence.
The dashboard has expanded in response to public feedback, growing from 35 indicators to 45. In Q1 2026, it recorded 407 site visits. The dashboard includes an introductory video, navigation guidance, downloadable summarized data and a public feedback survey. Making performance data easier to find, understand and reuse helps residents track progress, ask better questions and see how local services and decisions affect everyday life.
